It is thought that the town of Breda in Southern Holland gave its name to the Breda, a bird which has had many other names in its long history. Now known in Holland as Kraaikoppen, the Breda has also been known as the Guelder Fowl in USA (where it became extinct around 1905), Poule de Breda in France and Breda Huhn in Germany. In the UK it is known as the Breda where the Standards give the accepted colours as white, black, blue laced, cuckoo and self blue, although this last colour is not recognised in Holland.
