Best Breed Club Stand

Fancy Fowl takes a look at the winners of the Best Breed Club stand at the Federation Show - The Hamburgh Club. Serious Competition, meetings and friendly chat totally cover the activities of the large numbers of exhibitors attending a most excellent and well organised National Federation Show.

Competition results are published elsewhere in Fancy Fowl but it is impossible to cover "the chat!" What is possible is to cover the main items of a Breed Club Show, its Annual General Meeting and other activities.

The Hamburgh Club is without doubt one of the most stabilised of any Breed Club with over £2500 in the Bank which does not include the legacy below.

The Club focuses strongly on new members and for yet another first amongst Breed Clubs is publishing a booklet for new members which will contain photographs of all the different colours of Hamburgh accompanied by their standards. Also included will be club rules and a brief history.

This positive move to encourage and help new members has been has been possible by the legacy left to the club by the late Mr Albert Lund who was such a great supporter of the breed.

The Annual General Meeting of the club was well attended. David Kay who has been involved in the club since 1960 retired as chairman. Elected his successor is Mr Keith May of Bodmin, Cornwall. A great supporter of the breed following in the footsteps of his father Gilbert who was a long standing member and judge. Interestingly Mr May is only the fifth chairmen in nearly 60 years, how about that for constancy and club stability!

The club has over 100 members throughout the United Kingdom and is much encouraged by an increasing number of members now getting involved with the large fowl which have made such amazing progress over recent years, both in terms of quantity and especially quality. Much of the chat at the club show centered around the most excellent class of large silver spangled males, what a picture they were and so much admired.

Finally the "Sunday Chat" was all about the club being awarded the first prize for the Breed Club Stand, a splendid achievement for the hard work of secretary Peter Harrison, his wife Christina and daughter Katie. Well done The Hamburgh Club.

Secretary of the Hamburgh Club is Mr Peter Harrison, 60 Dean Head, Summit, Littleborough, Lancs
