National Poultry Show 2013 Preview

16th & 17th November 2013 at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire

This year We will once again be occupying the two main exhibition halls at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, and with nearly 7000 entries last year we certainly needed every inch of space to accommodate the birds as well as the many trade stands.

Once again we are grateful to the many companies who take stands and for the generosity of our sponsors. These include – the friendly poultry forum where you can stay in touch with current trends and chat to other poultry fanciers – Jamie is a great supporter of the National and this year has sponsored the wrist bands. Allen & Page, the well known feed supplier will be sponsoring the sale, along with Fabian Eagle the poultry auctioneers from Norfolk. Fancy Feeds, who provide speciality feeds for chickens, medication free and manufactured with non-GM ingredients – many thanks to Minty and her team for providing the pen numbers and the feed for the show birds throughout the show. Emvelo are joining us again and this year are sponsoring the Hen Hut Lectures, they provide animal care products for poultry, equines, livestock and pets – many thanks to Gill and her team for their support. The lectures this year will be given by Lewis Wescott (chickens), Janice Houghton-Wallace (turkeys) and Mike Hatcher (waterfowl.) The talks this year will be free of charge and will be held in a room at the back of Hall 1. Tickets for each talk are free and can be obtained from the Emvelo stand. Numbers will be limited, so be sure to get your ticket as soon as possible after you arrive. The Rare Breeds Survival Trust are not only working alongside the Poultry Club to make sure that in the event of an outbreak of a notifiable disease, pure bred poultry can be saved from slaughter, but they are sponsoring the prize cards and will have a stand with the latest information on saving rare and endangered farm livestock.

Trade stands (at the time of writing) include books, incubators, china and giftware, poultry supplements and veterinary supplies, poultry/small animal feed, magazines, cages, feeders, poultry housing, cider, poultry/animal artists, outdoor clothing, and definitely not to be forgotten the ever popular sweet stand! Rupert Stephenson will once again be there to photograph your birds and provide many of the beautiful photographs featured in magazines throughout the year.

The sale will be held in Hall 1 and has now become an integral and hugely popular part of the National Show. The variety of birds for sale is certainly varied, and there is something for everybody whether you are looking for exhibition birds or just some egg laying pets for the back garden. The sale has been expertly run by Edward Boothman over the last few years, and he will once again be overseeing all the many transactions taking place.

Last year we had a DVD made of the show by a professional cameraman. This proved very popular and many copies have been sold. We will have copies of the DVD available for sale as well as a great choice of PCGB merchandise.

If you have an interest in poultry, or wish to show your birds or just want a good day out with a bit of Christmas shopping thrown in then visit The National Poultry Show on November 16th and 17th 2013.
